Reality Fighting: Moreno vs. Gagliardi – Live Play by Play

Reality Fighting February 25, 2012

Shockblastmedia will be live at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT  for Reality Fighting. Aisha Coston and I will be reporting live play-by-play and results of tonight’s action starting approximately at 8 PM.

The night will feature two championship fights. Middleweight Champion Team Link’s Alexandre “Vaca” Moreno (12-2, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt) makes his first title defense against Domenic Gagliardi (4-1, Bristol, CT). Vaca won the title by armbar submission in February 2011. All of Vaca’s win save his first have been won by submission (his first win was by decision).

 

Gagliardi is coming off a win by knockout.

The Welterweight Championship will be decided when Nate Lamotte (12-5, Manchester, NH) faces off against Brett Oteri (8-3, Dedham, MA). Lamotte is a former title holder and is looking to get the belt back. Oteri has two big wins in Reality Fighting and has risen to the number one contender spot.

We are minutes away from the start of tonight’s fights. The fans are filling in. We have just heard a rumor that the

Keenan Raymond. vs Rob Font may not happen. We will keep you posted as to what we find out.

The anthem has been sung and the fights are about to begin!!

 

Pro Bantamweight Fight

Johnny Lopez (0-1) 145 lbs. vs.  Terin Swanson  (0-1) 135 lbs.

Round 1:

The two start off right way exchanging blows Lopez was able to get the take down pushing Swanson against the cage and then getting top position. Swanson was able to work his position and almost get an arm bar locked in.

The two worked there positions and end up locked in a NS position after a couple minutes the two stood up and Lopez immediately shot and got another takedown. Swanson was able to work around to Lopez’s back! He locks in the rear naked choke and ends the match.

Lopez was aggressive with takedowns but Swanson was able to work his superior ground game and come out on top! An exciting first win!

Winner:  Terin Swanson by Submission (Rear Naked Choke)

 

Pro Featherweight Fight

John Naples (2-3) 145 lbs. vs Steve Carr (0-0) 145 lbs.

Round 1:

The two meet in the middle of the cage and start feeling each other out with jabs.

Carr is able land a great round house kick to Naples stomach which woke Naples up who recovered quickly and rushed Carr to the cage wall. Carr turns his position putting Naples up against the cage as the two exchange short blows. Carr is working his knees to the body and Naples is firing back the same. Naples turns Carr around and almost sets up a slam but Carr works out of it.

The ref resets the two fighters in the middle of the ring. Naples starts the action by landing a head kick. Carr fires back bout it is blocked. Both fighters land good combos in this exchange but  neither is showing any wear.

The two go to the cage again but separate quickly. Back in the center of the ring Naples is firing hay makers. He lands a solid right Carr is phased. Naples works him over to the cage landing some hard punches but Carr is still standing. As the round comes to an end, Carr is definitely dazed and bleeding.

Round 2:

Carr comes out of his corner slower and more cautious than the first round. Naples lands a great jab and then a nice combo that sends Car to the mat. He stays down enticing Naples to join him. Naples goes into his guard and lands a couple of good punches before standing back up. Carr refuses to stand.

The ref stands him up and the fighters reset. Naples is trying to end this match with once punch . Carr tries for some head kicks to keep Naples back but misses. Naples lands another hard shot putting Carr to the cage again. The two separate, both looking tired, they throw some light punches and clinch again. Naples landed some good body shots and was able to pick car up and slam him down.

Naples was in Carr’s guard landing some good jabs to Carr’s face.

The ref stops the fight and has Carr looked at by the doctor. The doctor stopped the fight due to an eye injury that required immediate attention. Naples has been firing jabs and straight at will and that damage is what won this fight

Winner: John Naples via Stoppage (Doctor)

Pro Lightweight Fight

Manny Torres (2-0) 155 lbs. vs Leroy Derricott (2-1) 155 lbs.

Round 1:

The two fighters start off by snapping off some quick exchanges trying to set up a combinations, both circle and paw each other out exchanging leg kicks.  Torres for a head kick and Derricott is able to take him down. Torres holds him in place until the ref stands them up.

The two circle again Derricott landing light leg kicks trying to set up a combo. Possibly looking to set Torres up for a takedown. Torres isn’t doing much offensively. He has thrown a couple of straights and front kicks but all were blocked or deflected.

Torres turns and Derricott was able to get his back and take him down. He moves in to get the rear naked choke but is having some trouble locking it in as the round ends. Derricott definitely won this round without a question.

Round 2:

Derricott  sa ts by landing a quick jab. The two dance for a second and Derricott lands a hard straight to the face of Torres that sends him down to the mat. He moves in quickly to finish, Torres defends for a moment but Derricott keeps working his position and ends up going from Torres guard to full ground and pound mount. Derricott rains down punches to Torres who is unable to defend himself. The ref stops the match and the crowd goes crazy.

Winner: Leroy Derricott via TKO (Punches)

Pro Featherweight Fight

Erik Lee (5-2) 145 lbs. vs. Andrew Caron (5-3) 145 lbs.

Round 1:

Lee starts off pawing a jab. Caron throws a shot to check distance. Lee moves in with a combo and the two clinch Caron pushes lee to the cage and throws some heavy shots to the body. Lee is able to turn Andrew around and goes for a one leg take down but Caron goes down with him the two stand up for a moment but lee is able to sweep his leg and get a take down. Caron holds Lee in a headlock as lee tries to move up his position.  Caron works up the cage and gets back to his feet for a moment Lee is able to bring him down again. Caron stands back up holding the cage, Lee still not letting go of his leg takes him down again. The two stand up again. This time Caron works out of Lee’s hold and is able to get him in a guillotine choke hold but is unable to lock it in. Lee keeps moving and is able to get a hard take down, he is in side control and is able to move into mount position. Caron is able to use the cage and roll out of it. Caron is in Lee’s guard throwing head shots as the round comes to an end.

Round 2:

Caron is pushing the start of the second round so far throwing sharp jabs and moving Lee back. Lee moves in for a single leg take down but caron is able to defend. He locks in Lee’s head and fires some heavy punches and elbows before the two get back on their feet. Lee is still locked onto Caron’s leg and gets him to the mat again.

The ref calls time and deducts 1 point on Caron for elbows to the back of the head.

The two fighters restart Caron gets a take down and ends up in Lee’s full guard. Lee is working for an armbar but Caron works out of it. Lee moves from an armbar to a triangle chock. It looks like he has it locked in hard. Caron is trying to slam out of it. Lee is able to hold it and lock it down. Caron taps! Lee’s ground work has gotten a huge applause from the press box. Lee definitely had a plan to keep this fight on the ground and he worked it to victory.

Winner: Erik Lee via Submission (Rear Naked Choke)

 

Pro Featherweight Fight

Miguel Santos (1-0) 145 lbs. vs Kyle Rozewski (0-1) 145 lbs.

Round 1:

The two circle, throwing jabs vying for distance. Santos throws a hard right but misses. The two circle again. Santos throws another combo backing Rozewski up the the cage where he moves right into a knee to the body. Santos holds on ad gets him in a headlock bringing Rozewski to the mat locking in a guillotine choke. It looks to me that he has it locked in but Rozewski is still fighting, throwing hard punches and elbows to the body of Santos’ trying to break free from the hold.

Rozewski gets free and is in Santos full guard, he throws some heavy punches and works his way into half guard, Santos changes his position and the two stand up. Santos presses Rozewski  again the cage. This time Rozewski  sweeps Santos and is able to get his back at the very end o0f the match Rozewski  had Santos completely spread out trying to lock in a rear naked choke but Santos was able to make it to the end of the round.

Round 2:

Rozewski starts by throwing some light jabs followed by a head kick, not causing any damage Santos fires back with a combo punches and a body kick. The two circle and throw light jabs and kicks trying to put something together. Santos moves in firing some heavy punches, he doesn’t connect and the tow end up clinched against the cage. Rozewski gets the take down and ends up on the top position in side control he is throwing some heavy punches. Santos uses the cage to flip them over but it looks like that Rozewski locked in an arm bar he wasn’t able to lock it in. Santos now has top position and he is trying to lock in a Kimura. Royzewski is able to get out of it but as he stands up Santos lands some hard knees to the head of Royzewski followed by an even harder right. Royzewski holds on and the two stay clinched till the round ends.

Round 3:

The first fight to make it to the third round starts with Rozewski going for a leg kick. Santos catches it and sweeps Rozewski sending him down to the mat he moves in getting side control. Rozewski is trying to throw some punches and use the cage to turn Santos over but Santos is holding him in place but then he is able to move and gets Santos in his full guard. Santos landed a couple good head shots and is trying to stand he continues to throw some heavy body shots and a couple head shots and elbows.  Rozewski is trying to keep Santos in place as he is heeling Santos in the back and throwing the occasional short punch for the bottom. As the round is coming to and Santos is able to turn him around just as the round came to an end. This one is going to the cards.

Winner: Miguel Santos via Decision (Unanimous)

Pro Lightweight Fight

Brendan Rooney (1-0) 155 lbs. vs Matt Tuthill (0-1) 155 lbs.

Round 1:

The two exchange combos quickly firing them back and forth. Rooney was able to get Tuthill to the cage and goes for a take down he ends up in side control pinning Tuthill against the cage. He is trying to get mount but Tuthill is keeping him in place. He is trying to use the cage to roll Rooney over to no avail. Rooney is able to get full guard but Tuthill is able to flip him over and lands some quick punches before Tuthill gets him in full guard. Rooney is able to get to his feet but Tuthill has no intention of standing up and the crowd starts to jeer. As the round comes to a close Rooney goes back down to the mat. Nothing happens.

Round 2:

Both fighters come out swinging a variety of combos. Tuthill is able to wrap up Rooney for a take down attempt. Rooney ends up on top side control and throws some hard knees to the back of Tuthill. Rooney then takes his back and tries to lock in a rear naked choke. He has plenty of time and works the hold until Tuthill taps!

Winner: Brendan Rooney via Submission (Rear Naked Choke)

 

Pro Middleweight Fight

Jason Ward (4-1) 185 lbs. vs. Mike Berby (4-0) 185 lbs.

Round 1:

Berby and Ward start moving around the ring. Ward fires a couple of shots and misses. Berby covers starts moving around the ring widly, spinning in place to avoid Ward. Not too sure what that is about but Ward stays on him landing a good body and head shot. Berby keeps his wheels on trying to escape. Ward pins him against the cage and Berby just covers up as Ward cocks back and fires haymakers. I am talking some serious shots to the head and the sides then he lands one to the body which crumples Berby to the mat Ward keeps firing until the refs stops the match 44 seconds into the match! Wow. The crowd went insane. I am not sure anyone told Berby what was going to happen when he steps into the cage for a fight.

Winner: Jason Ward via TKO (Punches)

 

Pro Lightweight Fight

Chris Simmons (6-2) 155 lbs. vs  Kevin Roddy (11-14) 155 lbs.

Round 1:

Simmons starts with a leg kick. Roddy fires back with a sold straight that connects with Simmons’ jaw. The two continue to circle . Roddy lands some strong side kicks. Simmons fires back with some combos after Roddy went for a front kick to the face but missed.

The two fighters clinch. Simmons has Roddy against the cage. Roddy is throwing some knees. Simmons is able to get a hard take down and ends up in side control. The two work for positions Simmons ends up in Roddy’s full guard and stands up. Roddy is able to land a couple of heel kicks from his back.

I am not sure why but the ref stopped the fight. It looks like Roddy was either poked in the eye or his hair pulled or something to do with his extra small youth orange booty shorts that he is wearing I am not sure and no one else in the press box seems to know either.

When the fighting resumes Roddy comes out firing and Simmons answers back and gets a hard take down.

The ref stops the match again this time Simmons lost his mouth piece.

The two start up again and clinch exchanging short punches with each other in the clinch as the round ends.

Round 2:

Round two starts with some Roddy throwing some hard overhand rights trying to connect. Simmons moves in for a take down, Roddy bounces off the cage jumps up wrapping up Simmons and takes him down. He ends up in side control and is throwing some elbows.  He works into full guard and he fires some punches from the top as Simmons does the same from the bottom. Simmons attempts an arm bar but quickly lets go. Simmons locks in a guillotine choke and he is trying to lock it in. The crowd is loving all the ground game action tonight. Roddy is able to break from and is back in full guard – top position. Roddy works his position and moves in for an ankle lock but isn’t able to do anything with it. Roddy is able to get his back in side control he lands some hard elbows. The ref stops the fight due to illegal N/S elbows. He speaks to both fighters and the match resumed just as the round comes to an end.

Round 3:

They came out swinging punches Simmons and Roddy both went to the mat together. Roddy lands a hard knee to the body and moves into Simmons full guard. He postures up and is able to throw some punches to the Simmons’ head. Roddy is able to stand he is trying to rain down some blows. Simmons tries to deflect and go for an arm bar. Roddy is back in full guard. He is alternating from head shot attempts and body shots. Simmons is trying to get a triangle choke locked in, Roddy is defending it as the round is coming to an end. As the round ends Roddy dances around the ring and Simmons does not look pleased with himself.

This one goes to the judges.

Winner: Kevin Roddy via Decision (Unanimous)

 

 

Pro Middleweight Fight

Dwight Grant (2-1) 185 lbs. vs.  Eddie Saldana (4-2) 185 lbs.

Both fighters circle trying to figure distance.  Grant throws couple jabs and a head lick but lands nothing. Finally the two exploede Grand goes for a muay thai clinch bring his knees to Saldana’s head but is blocked they change some fast combos and separate. Grant lands a front kick to the leg that sends Saldana to the mat but quickly recovers. Grant is the aggressor so far. They clash together and Grant lands a couple hard body shots and a solid uppercut to the nose of Saldana who is now bleeding from his nose pretty steady. Saldana goes for a kick and moves into Grant’s over hand right sending him to the mat again. Grant tries to capitalize but Saldana recovers. They separate and Grant fires a combo that rocks Saldana and then a hard right. It looked to me that he was out before he hit the mat. Grant follows up but the ref doesn’t stop the fight. Saldana is still going. I have to give him credit this guy has a lot of heart. He stays alive and makes it to the end of the match.

 

Round 2:

This round starts with Grant circling the outside he lands a hard body kick and tries to knee his head. Saldana keeps on his feet. They circle. The crowd is growing restless. They clinch Saldana tries for a take down but is blocked. They separate again and continue to circle. Saldana narrowly avoids another straight shot. Grant shoots in with a combo then jumps back again. He is definitely using is reach to his advantage. Grant fires another head shot combo bring up his knee and going for another combo but Saldana is un-phased. They start circling again the crowd starts to turn on them.

Grant goes for a leg kick Saldana catches it and goes for a take down Grant blocks it. Saldana is bleeding steadily now from his nose and breathing out of his mouth. Grant fires another great one two combo to the head and face of Saldana but he takes it and is still standing

Round 3:

Saldana corner did a good job stopping the bleeding. I have to give him credit he has taken a lot of punishment so far. The two meet in the middle and clinch. Grant tries to take his back Saldana counters and the Grant breaks free. Grant fires in a side leg kick Saldana shoots for a take down but does get it they separate. Saldana tried for another take down but can’t get it.

Grant leads in with a one two combo stunning Saldana he doesn’t stop. He keeps throwing punches he is defiantly stunned. Grant lands more punches and three solid knees to the face of Saldana but he is still standing! The ref finally stopped the fight. My hat is off to Saldana he didn’t quit!

Winner: Dwight Grant via TKO (Punches)

Grant was just offered a 185 lb. title shot by Kipp during his post fight interview. This was his third fight with them and he won all three by KO or TKO

**Middleweight Title Fight**

Domenic Gagliardi (3-1) 185 lbs. vs  Alexandre “Vaca” Moreno (10-2) 185 lbs.

Round 1:

The match starts with Vaca shooting in for a take down pushing Gagliardi to the cage. They separate for a moment and Vaca shoots back in and gets the take down. Gagliardi had him in a headlock and was able to get to his feet. Vaca took him down again easily. He has him in an awkward side control from the top and he rains down some punches before Gagliardi was able to stand again. Vaca stays with him and takes him down again. He takes his back. Gagliardi tries to stand up with Vaca on his back. He slams down causing a pile driver type action. Vaca stays with him and locks in the rear naked choke. The crowd goes nuts. Another Team Link champion is crowned!

Winner: Alexandre “Vaca” Moreno via. Submission (Rear Naked Choke)

**It looks like the last two fights have been cancelled. We have not found out why just yet but Brett Oteri (7-2) 170 lbs. vs  Nate Lamotte (12-5) 170 lbs. and Keenan Raymond (0-0) 145 lbs. vs Rob Font (3-1) 145 lbs. will not be happening**
