Shocking Introduction: A First Look at the New Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Maps Liberation and Piazza

It’s that magical day for all you COD kids out there. That’s right, “map pack” day. With the advent of Call Of Duty: Elite and the maps having been essentially prepaid for with the service, Activision/Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer have decided to release the maps individually in what I would imagine will be monthly increments instead of three map packs of 4-5 maps each. They’ve probably announced exactly how it works; I guess I just don’t care enough to look for the info. In any event, the first two maps have dropped on XBox Live today and they are called Piazza and Liberation. Below you will find walkthrough videos for each map along with my initial thoughts on the maps. I hope everyone enjoys my sweet clan tag.

Piazza: this one takes place in an Italian seaside city and is very scenic. I would call it a medium size map in terrain, but it plays a little bigger because there are so many nooks and crannies and different levels. It feels like there are three different levels of surface to cover. While it is one of the cooler looking maps in the Call Of Duty franchise, I don’t know how popular it will be. There are a lot of tight corridors that will essentially either turn into a camp fest or lots of one on one battles then end in frustration for someone.

Liberation: this map is in the heart of New York City at a park and has a fall theme. It pretty much follows the trend of having multiple levels of terrain and includes a bombed out area underground. There is a mounted turret gun at one location that covers a fairly wide opening where you can mow people down, with the caveat being you have big blind spots from the left and right where people can drop a dime on you… or something.
