Former Bruin Mike Milbury Charged with Assaulting 12 Year Old Boy

Morning everyone, or again, afternoon depending on where you are. It’s morning here in Vancouver and I’m eating a nice 10 am lunch. As I’m eating my lunch my twitter feed blows up with stories of former Bruin and current NHL analyst Mike Milbury being charged with assault….on a 12 year old boy.

No, not a joke blog entry, this is actually happening. Here’s a snippet of the article from thebostonchannel.com

Michael Milbury was accused of assaulting a 12-year-old youth hockey player at the Jack Kirrane Ice Skating Rink at Larz Anderson Park in Brookline last week on Dec. 9, police said. Milbury is being charged with one count of assault and battery on a child, one count of threats to commit a crime, and disorderly conduct, police said. Milbury is an assistant coach of a pee wee hockey team. The alleged victim was a player from an opposing team.

Only word I can think of to describe this is pathetic. Pathetic that a grown man, a public figure, has the temper of….well, a 12 year old. Unless the 12 year old shot a puck at the guy or skated over his fingers there is nothing that can justify beating up a kid. Nothing. Milbury has a bit of a history in being a lose cannon. Remember the guy who was beating a fan with his own shoe? Yeah, that’s Milbury. Remember the guy who year after year traded away and utterly destroyed the New York Islanders players and prospects? Yeah, that’s him.

If Matt Barnaby gets fired from ESPN for drunk driving, I wonder what Versus, TSN and CBC do with Milbury? At this rate, we’ve seen as many coaches as we’ve seen TV analysts fired.

ESPN unfortunately waited for his second incident before they fired Barnaby…hopefully Versus won’t wait that long for Milbury…
